Scholarly journals are generally published by subject matter experts for other subject matter professions/experts. A publication is considered to be peer reviewed if its articles go through an official editorial process. Before the article is published in the journal, it involves review and approval by the author’s peers (people who are experts in the same subject area) in order to ensure the article’s quality. Articles in scholarly journals present new, previously unpublished research. Scholarly sources will almost always include:

• Bibliography and footnotes
• Author’s name and academic credentials

Searching Cypress College Library A-Z Databases for Peer-Reviewed Journal Articles:

• Academic Search Complete (EBSCO) is an example of a Cypress College Library database which allows you to limit searches for articles to peer reviewed journals only.

Within the EBSCO database interface, search queries can be limited to Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals only under the Limit Your Results section. Several EBSCO Databases contain Scholarly peer-reviewed articles.

• Academic OneFile (Gale) (Peer-Reviewed Journals option in Adv. Search) Explore a range of topics broken down by subject for targeted results based on your interests. Biology, Chemistry, Criminal Justice, Economics, Environmental Science, History, Marketing, Political Science, and Psychology.
• Gale In Context: College (Peer-Reviewed Journals option in Adv. Search) An engaging online experience for those seeking contextual information on a wide array of subjects. The solution merges Gale's authoritative and continuously updated reference content with full-text magazines, academic journals, news articles, primary source documents, images, videos, audio files and links to vetted websites organized into a user-friendly portal experience.
  • Other Gale 'OneFile' & 'Gale In Context' database listing of Scholarly / Academic Journals. Go to Advanced Search in your respective database to limit to peer-reviewed journals. Explore this listing for other Subject-Matter Topics.
• Research Library (Proquest) Multidisciplinary subject coverage from scholarly, trade, and consumer publications.
