Where do I go to find encyclopedia articles for background information?
Answer
Cypress College Library has access to online databases that contain encyclopedia resources. The databases showcased below are found in the Databases A-Z LibGuide webpage:
- Gale E-books (aka Gale Virtual Reference Library) is a database of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research.
- SEARCH by Topic/Person/Keyword and the keyword 'encyclopedia' to retrieve encyclopedic subject matter results.
- Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia (EBSCO database) is a database which provides over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas.
- SEARCH by Topic/Person/Keyword to retrieve reference-related results from encyclopedia resources.
These databases will be useful in developing a Topic Understanding of people, places, and subject matter concepts before specific thesis questions are researched.
